Little Moments of Life

To my fellow Voiceover Actors and Creatives,

As we enter February of this new year, I wanted to write about 'Glory to the Small' and 'Relishing the Little'.

In Music, every great song starts as a harmony, a melody, sharps, and flats—as well as majors and minors.

Composers start with a small idea, and then the idea grows and becomes something powerful and glorious. I once went into a bookshop and performed the music for Gladiator on a very, very small piano. I knew how to play the music by memory, coming from my Head and by hearing with my ears...Started small, then I played it bigger with two hands. A listener heard me once at a family event and asked, "Where's the Sheet music?"

I asked him, "What Sheet music?"

As an actor, especially in film, we all start with something small. It could be performing the role of the guy watching a Michael Jordan basketball game in Space Jam, or a Stan Lee cameo in the Marvel universe.

In Avatar: The Last Airbender, the Cabbage guy is always there with his shop, and he always says, "My cabbages!"

The voice actor of the Cabbage Guy performed such a small role. And yet, he is great comic relief in the moment of the adventure that is happening in the cartoon.

Glory to the Small!

To be continued..

February 1st 2026.
